Triple Jointed FAQ

Do you have an Allergen statement?

This product is not manufactured with milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts or soy. It is produced in a GMP facility that processes some of these allergens. As part of GMP, quality procedures to prevent cross contamination and allergen contamination include separate warehousing, special air handling systems, physical separators, robust cleaning procedures, residue testing after cleaning, equipment surface swabs, etc. The standard operating procedures ensure compliance with current FDA guidelines and requirements for allergen control.

Do you use magnesium stearate in any of your products?

We do not use magnesium stearate. We use vegetable sourced stearic acid. Some people claim they are identical. They are not. The simplest difference to understand is that magnesium stearate contains magnesium (Mg(C18H35O2)2). Vegetable stearate does not (C18H36O2). It is required as a flow agent whenever you send a powder with any tendency to stick through either a tableting or encapsulation machine. Otherwise the powder gums up the works and jams the equipment. Stearic acid is an essential saturated fatty acid that is found in all vegetable, seed, nut, and animal oils. Although stearic acid can be derived from several sources, including bovine, the most common source in better quality nutritional supplements is vegetable stearic acid primarily from coconut and palm oils. Incidentally, the amount of stearic acid in a typical tablet or capsule is much less than what you'll find in a salad with olive oil and vinegar dressing. (Olive oil is a source of stearic acid.)

Basic vitamins and minerals are fine, but in general, human supplements are not recommended for pets. Understand, animals are not people and can quite differently to foods and supplements. For example, chocolate can be toxic for dogs.

I see that you use silica in your formulas as an encapsulating aid. What form of silica is this?

We actually only use silica in one formula, the Triple Jointed, as part of the encapsulation process. It's used as a flow agent. The ASU in the formula is very sticky. Without the use of a flow agent, the formula sticks to the encapsulation machine and won't load into the capsules. We use silica as a flow agent, because it works and because it's natural. The amount used is very small, and on a per capsule basis is very, very, very small. At the levels it is found in the Triple Jointed, it will have no impact on your health in any way. That said, there are those who say that silica is actually a valuable supplement and can help optimize the appearance of your skin, hair, and nails. Others say no.

Can the avocado soy in the Triple Jointed formula cause an allergic reaction?

It is unlikely, but theoretically not impossible in some cases, that avocado soy unsaponifiables would cause an allergic reaction. Unsaponifiables are particular bio-chemical components of avocado and soy and not the components normally associated with allergic reactions.

How often should I take Triple Jointed?

The recommended daily dosage is three (3) capsules.

Is it OK to be ingesting the Silicon dioxide in the Triple Jointed?

Silicon dioxide is used in supplements as an anti-caking, drying mechanism to keep moisture out and the supplements dry. Silicon dioxide prevents moisture in the air from soaking into the pills and helps prevent the pills from sticking together. As to its safety, silicon (and silicon dioxide is its most common form) is an indispensable part of the food that we eat daily. Silicon plays a major role in development of the bones, and it is necessary to include silicon food sources in our diet. In order to maintain healthy strong bones and joints, silicon dioxide in foods is very much essential. Along with calcium and vitamins, silicon dioxide is equally important for proper bone growth, strength and density. Deficiency of silicon can cause osteoarthritis and arthritis. Another important health benefit of silicon is that it minimizes aluminum effects on the body.

We use a concentrated extract of the fatty acid cerasomal-cis-9-acetyl-myristoleate from a natural bovine source.

The UC-II is not from organic chickens, however keep in mind that it is so highly purified and refined that it is now a nutraceutical, not a food. The word organic is not actually relevant any more.

Is there any soy protein isolate in the Triple Jointed or is the all of the soy fermented?

All ASU (avocado/soy unsaponifiables) come in a 30% concentration by weight. 50% of the blend is soy protein isolate -- which may present a problem for those allergic to soy protein. However, that works out to only 165 mg of soy protein in an average daily dose of Triple Jointed.

Do I have to take Triple Jointed at bedtime?

Triple Jointed is one of those supplements that do better when not competing with a lot of food. If the morning works better for you than the evening, that's fine. If the food in your stomach is moderate or light, that's probably not much of a problem. What you want to avoid is taking Triple Jointed with large meals.
